Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Group Manager Infrastructure is a varied role guiding Unit Managers and their teams, across a diverse infrastructure portfolio.

The Organisation

The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future. With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front facing community to support and technical specialists.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Group Manager Infrastructure is a diverse role guiding Unit Managers and their teams, across the full spectrum of Drainage and Water, Land Transport and Waste Minimisation. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to the strategic leadership of the Council, working closely with elected members and key stakeholders in the community.

The Infrastructure Group plays a key role in delivering core services to the community. The successful applicant will lead and influence Council’s strategic direction and long term planning to provide “fit for future” infrastructure services.

The Group Manager will undertake the pivotal role of Chief Executive for the Timaru Richard Pearse Airport, including dealing directly with the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure all activities necessary for the proper operation of the airport are carried out.


The Person

The successful candidate could come from professional services, local government or a similar complex operating environment and have demonstrated leadership experience with infrastructure activities. You will possess strong leadership ability, vision and flexibility to initiate change where appropriate.
