Animal Control Officer - Part-time After Hours

The Role / Person
Our small but mighty Animal Control team is looking for an individual passionate about the safety of our community, compliance and animals!
Your challenge will be working within the Dog Control Act 1996 and Council policies and procedures to respond to public complaints about dog and stock control and providing proactive patrolling.
This role will see you work across the Timaru District to ensure public safety is maintained and the community is educated. You will provide essential services such as following up on wandering dog complaints, dog attacks, and raising public awareness of responsible dog ownership.
We’re looking for an individual who can interpret, explain and apply laws, regulations and policies relating to animal control.
You will also be able to assess animal behaviour (dog and stock) and make effective decisions regarding any action to be taken. This role suits individuals with public facing compliance background, who demonstrate strong customer service and conflict management and de-escalation skills.

This is a permanent part-time position offering a minimum 5 hours per fortnight, with on-call responsibilities every other week from 5pm to 8am, Monday to Friday and every other weekend 24 hours a day. The hourly rate for this position is $28.86 - $33.95, plus an additional on-call allowance.
