The District

The Organisation
The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future. With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front-facing community to support and technical specialists.
The Role
Splash for your cash this summer - we are looking for competent swimmers to join our lifeguard team, in both seasonal and casual positions, as we prepare to open outdoor pools for the summer season!
As a new Lifeguard, you will take pride in providing awesome customer service, all while ensuring a safe and fantastic aquatic experience for the community.
Full training will be provided to the successful applicants - gain your Pool Lifeguard Practicing Certificate and Comprehensive First Aid with us.
In this position, your primary duties will include keeping vigilant attention to swimmers in the pool, completing pool hygiene duties including chemical handling and providing first aid assistance where required. You will be the first port of call in the event of an emergency, so while full First Aid training will be provided, you should feel confident that you can respond to these events.
All applicants must be able to complete a practical assessment, including swimming 200m within 6 minutes, retrieving an object from the deepest part (3.5m) of the pool, and tread water for 5 minutes.
We have a number of positions available at our four outdoor pools across the district. Hours will be on a rostered basis, Monday to Sunday, ability to work early morning, late evening, weekend and public holiday shifts is essential.
The summer pool season runs from November 2023 to March 2024 with the possibility for change. Please let us know on application what pool/role you’re interested in.
