About Timaru District Council:

About the position:
The Payroll Support Officer & Group Administrator is responsible for supporting the Payroll Officer in the delivery and operation of the computer payroll system, and timely and accurate payment of wages to employees.
The role will also provide administrative support to the Director Engagement and Culture, Wellness Advisor and Learning and Development Specialist.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support the Payroll Officer in the effective and efficient operation of the computer payroll system to ensure all processes are executed appropriately on a fortnightly rotation effective and efficient operation of the computer payroll system.
Help ensure timesheets and other records are processed appropriately and within the required deadlines to ensure staff are paid correctly in accordance with their contracts.
Support the preparation of ACC and PAYE reconciliations and to ensure timely payment of these and IR file PAYE details.
Help ensure employee pay rates and allowances are in accordance with the relevant collective and individual employment contracts.
Provide administration support as requested by the Director Engagement and Culture.
About the successful candidate:
You will have a strong passion for numbers and payroll and have multiple years’ experience within a payroll or office management environment. Your integrity and conduct will align with the confidentiality needs of the role, and you will be a great team player. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to initiate and engage effectively at all levels, therefore you will be able to communicate in a trustworthy and professional manner.
The successful candidate will have:
Relevant qualification in payroll, accounting, or business.
3+ years of payroll experience within a similar sized organisation.
Strong knowledge and experience of relevant legislation including the Employment Relations Act 2000, Income Tax Act 2007 and Holidays Act 2003.
Strong computer skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and effective use of research engines.
Experience in Civica Authority software within a government environment is desirable, however, a strong aptitude to learn new systems is a must.
A high level of honesty, integrity, confidentiality, and a trustworthy manner.
