The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future. With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front facing community to support and technical specialists.
The Position / Person
TDC’s Strategy and Corporate Planning team are on the lookout for a forward thinking Policy Advisor to provide high quality analysis and deliver long-term policy outcomes for our District!
Your challenge will be supporting the policy review process and researching and advising on policy proposals. You will proactively search for ways to respond to potential policy impacts on Council and the Timaru District.
Working alongside a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will support community consultation processes and identify the needs of our community and Council. Naturally, you will be an all-round communicator, who relishes the challenge of turning complexity into clear, concise and engaging advice.
We need a critical thinker who can optimise TDC’s potential to achieve our strategic goals. You'll understand the importance of getting policy right, and take pride in consistently delivering work to a high standard. While you remain attentive to the finer detail, you'll also keep track of how your work links to the whole organisation through the Long-Term and Annual Plans.
Joining a team of experienced policy planners and advisors, this is an ideal opportunity for an individual to advance, or kick-start, their career in policy. The successful candidate will hold, or recently graduated with, a degree in Public Policy, Social Sciences or similar. Experience in either policy planner, analysis or stakeholder engagement in a political environment would be ideal, however, this is not vital.
